Galaxy Clusters

NW_relic_webpageCollisions between galaxy clusters can accelerate cosmic-ray electrons to ultra-relativistic energies. The radio signals emitted by the relativistic particles can then be used to study the internal properties of the clusters. In Lindner et al. (2013), we present 610MHz and 2.1GHz imaging of the “radio relics” and “radio halo” in the massive, high-redshift cluster merger “El Gordo” (Menanteau et al. 2012).
